What is a therapy animal?
A Pet Partners therapy animal is a registered pet that volunteers with its owner in places like hospitals, schools, and nursing homes to bring comfort, joy, and healing to others. Unlike service or emotional support animals, they are trained to interact with many different people. To become a registered team, both you and your pet must pass a rigorous evaluation. The animal must be friendly, obedient, and calm under stress, while the handler must be trained on best practices, animal welfare, and safety. The AKC recognizes certain therapy organizations, including Pet Partners, and awards a dog with a therapy title if they apply after reaching a specified number of visits.

10.21.2026 Luna passed her evaluation with Pet Partners and can officially begin her work as a therapy dog. We were thrilled our hard work has paid off and can't wait to start visits.

1.26.2026 Luna has loved her recent visits: University of Utah, Brighton High School and Oakwood Elementary. When I put her Pet Partners bandana on, she knows it's time to work! Her favorite parts of her visits are the ear scratches and hugs.

3.15.2026 Before our visits we get ready with nail trimming and a good bath. Sometimes Luna's due for a haircut. Grooming is not a big deal for Luna (and she loves the extra treats).

4.27.2026 We were so excited to tell our regular therapy classrooms that Luna is expecting puppies. On the ultrasound they saw at least 5 puppies!

5.27.2026 Luna's x-ray visit this week was a big surprise. We counted 10 (!) puppies, which was a lot more than we were planning. It explains why she has been growing so much wider. Sometimes she's tired during the day and loves to lay on the cold tile, but we're always suprised how much she loves to run around outside.

5.30.2026 Luna timed her puppies perfectly for our family schedule (I'm sure it was intentional). The kids had their last day of school on Friday, and late Friday night Luna started showing signs of imminent delivery. About 9:45am on Saturday the first puppy was born! We look forward to visits in August when school starts again. 5.30.2026

6.6.2026 All 10 puppies are doing well and we are so thrilled! Luna is a very natural mother. She spends a lot of time cleaning and feeding her puppies, but still sneaks away from her litter to lay on the cold floor and run around outside. 6.6.2026
